Support to orphanages or institutions can be in the form of money or other types of donations such as clothes or food. It is not unusual for schools to connect with recipients and partners for charitable giving through the informal networks of teachers and parents. But, to honour our pledge, how these connections and partnerships are formed may need to become more formal to ensure due diligence and full consideration of the potential impact of your school’s support.

As your school considers how best to align charitable giving with the Global Charter and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, here are a few pointers to help get a conversation started:

• What is the current process for assessing and selecting new recipients or partners for your schools charitable giving?
• Does the school have any written guidance about partner selection including what type of activity is acceptable and what is not?
• Is there a vetting or approval process for new recipients or partners?
